(To the Editor of the Herald.) , , Sir, — Our "friends" the so-called labor leaders seem to have it very much their owiv way - now m the matter of limelight per press. Each time one of these agitators- -open* nis : - r moi_th his utterances are published from end to end of New/ Zealand. VBerit'eV-er so absurd it is put into print and served up, to the delight of the smaller fry of the agitator class, a number of whom are! to be found iri> Gisborhe. Last night's Herald gave art account of a speech by a man called Howard m Qhristchurch. Now, for absolute rot some' of Howard's speech would be hard to beat, and what the Press Association -sent; it .on. for goodness Ijnows. For Howard.' s hearers to have given him the applause'they did shows the kind of material' tlj ese gat)gifted fellows have to "sriioodge" ' to. ' f My object in'" writing 'you;' is to enter a protest on behalf of hiiiridreVls oi -New ! Zealanders who are more . interested-; m the.- lifeelfa.re i t^}a i ; < f,air r , country. , ;th^n. any one pf^.thtese agitators [was,/ is, clever will be, against the "prominence given then! m the newspapers. This prominence is, to a very large, extent,' responsible for the amount of labor unrest that- is. to he found throughout the country. A point that I would like to make is .that New Zealand's .native-born are being made to suffer, whilst those, oausing the strife are '"mostly men from the. Old Country, who came here thinking that . they, were going to live like fighting cooks, work only eight hours a day, and lift big wages. Their ideas were bigger "than their' 'capacities for v*ork, : ayid what oh.! they found that they ooiipld air their opinions of their bosses and the country they ;had adopted m public! In their own' country, which they might well have remained m; their names were MUD. In conclusion,! let me suggest that all labor newsbe carefully cehsbred' before publication, and these agitators -will die "down. — 1 -am, etc. , ' '•
