DUNEDINj last night. With flour at £8 15s »er ton and the high prides at present ruling 'for wheat, it is freely asserted that millers are running their mills at a loss. One miller stated to-day that he reckoned he was losing £40 per week with his present diminished output, and he would have to consider the question of closing his mill until Wheat got cheaper, or flour dearer. He quoted figures to show that he was losing 19s 9d per ton on flour.
The following additional business was transacted -'at the Matawhero saleyards yesterday afternoon: — Messrs Williams and Kettle and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. had a big entry of cattle, but there was little demand, low prices being realised. Most of the vendors were compelled to sell at the low prices ruling on account; of there being a shortage of cattle .feed. The sales were: 76 steers £2 10s, 77 l»<*itera $?,. 6s > 2 o d MSy cows £8, 30 ateers £4 10s, 36 ditto £3 Bs, 30 ditto £2 108, 26 heifers £2 12a 6d, 37 steers £4 10s, 3 weaner heifers 30s, 60 young steers £2 6s, 57 heifers £2 2s, 17 ditto £2 6s, 34 cows £2 2s, 13 Bteers £3 14s, 3 bullocks £4 .16s, 10 steers an-1 heifers £2 Bs, 9 weaners £1 10s, 13 18-months' mixed cattle £2 12s 6d, 7 heifers £2 '2s 6d, 40 weaner steers £2 Bs, 19 steers £3 13s, 20 ditto £4, 8 heifers £2 7e, 7 steers and heifers £1 7s 6d. 8 cows and calves £2, 2 steers £2 7s 6d, 29 steers £2 2s 6d, 15 ditto £4, 7 calves £1, 2 steers £3 15s, 63 steers and heifers £1 10s,. 6 cows £3, 13 weaners 15s, 61 weaners £2 6s.
