DEATH OF A YOUNG WOMAN.
SENSATIONAL EVIDENCE.

' ' . AUCKLAND, this day. The death of a young woman named Phyllis Adelaide French, 20 years of age, m a private hospital m Grafton road, on April 20 last, formed the subject for a prolonged coronial inquiry. The evidence of medical witnesses was to the effect that death was caused by an illegal operation The inquest was not concluded last evening, and was adjourned till to-day.
Giving evidence at an inquest on. Adelaide French, Wilfred Clarke, commercial traveller, who had represented himself as husband of deceased, when tak-, ing her to a private hospital, admitted that he was a married man with a wife m Christchurch. He denied that -he had promised to marry the deceased.. He asserted that the latter knew he was married. v He kept her company m consequence of a request by her mother' to look after l)er. He admitted that he had written to her m affectionate terms with kisses at the end of the letter.
