The annual trials of the Povertyjjay Sheep Dog.Club 'are. being^fayprea'*v?ith glorious,weather. and aire creating a considerable amountof interest amongst' the shepherds .of tlie di^trifat' and otjiers .litter estedjn the handling of sheep. Quite a large number of people attended .the gathering yesterday afternoon and Witnessed the interesting work" of the dogs, the majority of whom were m splendid command. In class 2, it was required that three sheep should be driven through three sets of' flags, the course being .short, But * a Very tricky one, and after two hoqi*' work onhp three out of 15 competitors had -succeeded m finishing m the . :i-e---quir«d time; 15 minutes. - "^ i Fine' weather prevailed for the second ■ day. of 'the Poverty Bay Trial GWs annual tl-ial. There was r ano attendance ot about AO, which increased considerably during the Afternoon. The sheep were fit, a nd' gave the dogs a good if&i. The course* lor '.'class n., huntaway work, was between three sets '•, of ' flags, placed at various intervals ; oii the' hillside, the tota-V length ofv the course being about 400 yard*. Three sheep! were hberated at the foot Ofi the hill, and the dog had to take them through the flags directed by his master, who um i tt vemam at the bottom of the hill.' Up to tho luncheon adjournmeht about half the competitors had tried their dogs, only three succeeding, m .getting their sheep over the entire length of the course. These were : Messrs J. Dunlop (Don), T. W. Martin tßock), and J. T, Herbert (Darkie). .fifeWal managed to get. one ov two sheep through flag.
