O^r Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Dr. McArthur, of. the Railwav Appeal Board, dismissed the appeal of! W. Thompson, stationmaster at Greytown, against his position on the classification list on the ground that the general manager had .not given a certificate, which was a necessary prelude to any promotion." Dr. McArthur held that there was no power to compel the general manager to give a certificate that might mean that classification was hot worth the paper it was written on. He might be wrong, but he thought the remedy, if any, lay in getting regulations. The lay members of the' Board dissented, considering the appeal should be sustained. The decisions will be forwarded to the Minister. Tlie Board dismissed the avppeals of G. Bennefield, cadet, Wanganui ; A. J. McPherson, cadet, Wellington ; P. McKewan, clerk, Aramoho. A dispute ' filed by the Wellington Grocers' Union came before the Conciliation Council to-day. No agreement was arrived at. The matter will be referred to the Arbitration Court. INVERCARGILL, this day. James McWatt, a second-hand dealer, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for keeping liquor for sale. He had previously boen fined £25 for a similar offence*.
