ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. At the' inquest on the body of the child wliich was found by a fishing boat on Sunday, evidence was given to the effect that the body was that of a male infant aged 10 months, and it was impossible to determine the cause of death. The body was well nourished, and there were no antemortem marks of violence. A verdict was returned to the effect that the ■ cause of death was unknown. "
AUCKLAND ,this dav. A man named Thomas Grubb, aged 45, fell when alighting from a moving train at Henderson, his injuries proving fatal. ASHBURTON, last night. A married man named Chas. Edwin Jeffs, a butcher, committeed suicide late this afternoon; The body was found in an outhouse at his residence in Ashburton by his brother-in-law at 5.40 p.m., the throat v being cut. Jeffs, who was. a well-known resident}' and a fairly young man, had just disposed of his interest in a butchery business. He was last seen aUve at 3.30 p.m. The act was ' evidently committed with a razor, and though the deceased left a farewell note the contents have not transpired, and the reason for the suicide is as yet unknown. DUNEDIN, last night. Wm. Peeak, a laborer, 26 years of age, died in- the hospital last night as the result of falling off a haystack on the 20th irtst. His spine was fractured.
