The 'danger jnayvbe gatheredfrom the returns of the number of suffer-, ers during the last three years,, ' the figures being: 1909, 1568; 1910, 2415} 1911, 5210. i A Greymouth correspondent tele^ graphs: — There lis. a note of pessimism 1 about the Labor Department's monthly report on' labor conditions -in' Gref mouth. ' The congestion 6f shipping in Australian ports *has, it seems, seriously interfered with the output of timber on the coast, and in consequence of this all mills cutting white pine for the Australian trade haVe their skids full up Of timber, aiid no means' are afforded them to relieve the congestion. Owing to the protracted delivery' of orders three mills have closed down, and .twb more are expected to close in •■ a few days. A more Serious feature of the industry is the falling off of orders for red pine timber, adds the report. Both .employers and employees are much concerned "übont the present outlook.
