SYDNEY* March 8. The Collector of Customs' report shows tliat the imports into New South Wales last year were valued at £27,342,428. Britain and British possessions supplied £16,018,820 of this.
Mr Holman (Attorney-General) has promised careful Cabinet consideration of the request of a deputation representing church temperance bodies in favor of the earlier closing of hotels, the contention being that most of the night crime is a result of the lateness with which the hotels are Open. After speaking at the Home Rule meeting on Thursday night, Sir- William Lyne had a sudden seizure and has been in a state of coma since. His condition is serious. It is supposed that a,bloodvessel in the brain has burst.
The Methodist Conference adopted a recommendation that pressure should be brought to bear on the State Government to officially gazette that the Ne Temere decree in no way . whatever affects the validity of marriages celebrated under the laws of the State.

BRISBANE, March 8. The damage by the fire in the Fitzroy buildings is estimated at £65,000. The whole was covered by insurance. Messrs Stewart and Sons' big soft-goods warehouse adjoining was drenched by the sprinklers,- and tlie, damago to the stock is serious. / Other adjoining premise's suffered to a lesser degree through heat and water.
