Ihe unknown man killed by a tnuncar at Wellington yesterday week has almost definitely been identified as Sr 3n 7 Calvin. r , He P assed through Westport from Greymouth on lebruary 27th by the Arahura for Wellington, bound for the Wanganui races. He had about £50 m his possession. A photograph has been identified by half a dozen people. He Avas a laborer, a single man. T j „,.„• DUNEDIN, this day. Judge Williams gave judgment m the case, Dalgety and others, appellants, versus the Commissioner of Taxes, an appeal from the decision of the Magistrate, overruling objections to the assessment of income for income tax purposes. The question was Avhat AA'ere the profits derived by appellants from the holding or occupation of Crown lands for the year ending March 31st, 1910, Avhich avos the last year appellants carried on, and during Avhich they held a clearing sale. Tlie judge held that the exception contained m the substitution could not be construed as an exception to prohibition from deduction. The appeal was dismissed. Avith costs. AUCKLAND, this day. Members of the Post and Telegraph, Raihvays, and Public Works' Departments contemplated participating m tlie military camps opening to-morroAV. An otiicial announcement has just been made that none of the employees of any (iovernment department are to go into camp, but a post office and railway service corps must be created, ■ and all those liable to service now m other-com-panies must join the corps of their oavh departments. It is understood that a protest Avill be made to headquarters on the subject.
