SARCOOD, SON AND EWEN.
(Special to Herald.) DUNEDIN, this day. Mr John EAven, of the firm of &argood, Son and Ewen, entertained the heads of departments and the factory managers at luncheon yesterday, m honor of his approaching marriage. During the course of the function Mr P. A. Sargood intimated that Mr H. C. Tewsley . (Wellington), after 38 years' continuous service m the company had, owing to a breakdown m health, been compelled to take an extended holiday. Mr Sargood said the lamented death of Mr J. G. Moore, manager at Christchurch, had necessitated certain alterations m the staff of the firm. Mr T. L. Austen, for several years manager at Dunedin and also at InA*ercargill, had been appointed to a similar position at ..Wellington. Mr S. N. Airey, many years m the service of the northern branches of the company, would fill the vacancy here. Mi* Wilson's transfer to Wellington will be severly felt m cricketing and social circles here. During his stay m Dunedin he has proved himself a most enthusiastic cricketer and a keen ' supporter of the game, and the advance j made m our local cricket for a feAv ' seasons Avas largely due to his efforts on | the Otago Cricket Association, and to ! his captaincy of the Otago team. He had the game at heart, and spared neither time nor expense m pushing it along. The improvement of our playing areas was another matter m Avhicli I Mr Wilson took a leading part, and it was his go-ahead policy that recently brought about the formation of a body for the improvement of our grounds. Mr Wilson will leave for his neAv home early next month.
