Mr Berryman, the ex-champion cornet player of the North Island Association is at present conductor of the Palmerston North Band, Avhich has entered for the Gisborne contest prepared for business. It is estimated that fully 50,000 acres of bush have been felled m the King Country during last year (states the Auckland Herald). 'The \veather has made it impossible for early burns, and the only hope is that good autumnal weather will be experienced. Calcium phosphates as a lick for sheep have* given good results m the tableland (N.S.W.) districts. Definite experiments will be carried out this year, at the Glen Innes farm. The calcium phosphates are mixed Avith sulphate of iron nnd Liverpool salt m the proportion of 4-1-40 respectively. It is also used m the proportion of 5-1-40. It is understood that Mr A. W. Hogg has decided to accept a testimonial from his friends and supporters, provided that it bears no political significance. The one shilling table at M. Neill's still teems with bargains.
