At Cape Maria and Russell the sea was moderate to-day, Tiritiri reported / a light swell, ' Taurnnga smooth* East Cape moderate, Gisborne moderate roll, Napier smooth, Cape Val liser moderate, Cape Campbell considerable, riniarii and Bluff smooth,' Oamaru moderate; Hokianga, Manukau, and Kawhia smooth, New Plymouth rough, Wanganui bar and Farewell Spit moderate, Westport smooth, nntl Greviiioutli moderate. WEATHER. FORECAST. Last night's weather report stated: "Barometric pressure has decreased steadily m the north, and has been unsteady elsewhere. Easterly and south-easterly /winds predominate today with increasing force, and changeable, cloudy and showery weather has prevailed. •; Forecast and present indications are for un-i settled and cloudy weather, with rain generally and heavy, with -rivers rising northwards of New Plymouth and Napier. A cyclone ap- i pears to be passing m the north, and easterly' and south-easterly winds are probable generally, strong to gale m the north and squally at times. In the South Island the winds aro likely to change to the west shortly, for a westerly storm area is developing and duo to pass .m the South about Friday." . The forecast to-day states: "Southerly moderate to strong; squally, and expect unsettled and cloudy weather at times; probable showers ; very unsteady ; tides good ; sea rough."
