Before a dentist is allowed to extract our teeth, he must satisfy examiners that lie is competent, and the doctor Avho desires to take care of the health of his patient must hold certificates showing that he lias thoroughly studied all the branches of his profession; But (remarks the Sydney, Evening NeAvs) the Architect 'who -supervises the building of the house m Avhich we spend the greater part of our lives is not necessarily required, to pass any special examination, nor to hold any license. ' He may • be quite ignorant of the intricate subject of sanitation, may know nothing of stresses and strains, and yet -he is allowed to build houses which may tumble about tho head of the occupants under the pressure of an ordinary gale of wind, or <may be so unhealthy that the householder and his family will spend the most of then* time m a sick bed. To prevent the possibility of the erection of such dangerous houses, the New South Wales Government should adopt . the suggestion of the Institute of Architects, and appoint a chair of architecture at tho University, and the question of registration would follow m due course.
The current Pathe Picture programme, including a special selection of scenic and travel films,, will be repeated tonight.
