MACQUARIE ISLAND.

HOBART, Dec. 27,

By the steamer Toroa,' which arrived to-day from Macquarrie Island, Dr. Mawson sent an interesting account of -the doings of the Antarctic party on the island. They found sea leopards, sea elephants, penguins, giant' petrels, Maori hens, and wild cats were abundant, while fish were. plentiful, and there, was no, difficulty m obtaining abundant food supplies. Fifty-five sheep were landed from the Toroa, and there is plenty of feed m long grass and circular cabbage, wherewith the island is densely clothed. A wireless station was erected at a headland several hundred feet above sea level. •
