Sir,— l am glad to see that at last the health authorities are moving m the matter of typhoid among the Maoris m this district: For more : thaji ' twelve months it. haft beeii present . m nearly every Maori ,s.Vttlemei/t around (Sisßorne. Of the 117 cases reported 'in' lhe . .public! aiid private hospitals m Gisborne m th« year, half of these cases, have beert Alaoris, and no Onp knows how many cases have occurred m tho settlements Which have never been reported. The Maoris understand very little about sanitation, and as m the majority of these canes '..'there has been 'no disinfection of clothes : or anything else, 'the dangr to; European as well as Maori has been Very considerable.'
