£120,000 TAKEN FROM MAIL BAGS.

Out of 115 mailbags for India and the Far East, eighteen were opened near Maeon. Laige sums of money and Christmas and other presents m connection with the Durbar were stolen. The thieves mlio stole the Indian mail 1 bags at Macon, m Burgundy, hid m the roof of the station before the train started, and then descended on to a small I platform behind the van. During the long run to the next station they wrenched the iron bars from the Avindow, and rifled fifty sacks. It is rouglily estimated that thov seemed £120,000. They made their escape when tho train slowed down where the lines were being repaired. . • There are indications that tlioy threw the packets to a confederate m a motor car. who collected them.
