BANK MANAGER'S DEATH.
The headless and otherwise mutilated body of Mr Robert Davis Lowers,' the manager of the Sussex street branch of the London Bank of Australia, was found on Saturday, October 28, by the Misses Lowers in a camp hut in the grounds of tho Eyrie, Queenscliff road, Queensland, Manly (New South Wales).
A packet of detonators and several pieces of fuse were subsequently found in the hut, and it is certain that death ■was brought about by the agency of the explosive. Recently Mr Lewers has been sleeping in the hut, which is at the rear of his home at Manly, as he has for some weeks past been suffering from mental strain, and had practically Lroken down. Owing to his condition his wife wired to the head office of the bank in Melbourne, asking for leave of absence, and this had been granted.
Early on the Saturday morning the sound of an explosion was heard by a couple of residents in the vicinity, but at the time no notice was taken, it being thought that someone was blasting. It is the custom of the . Misses Lewers. the daughters of the deceased, to go bathing at Freshwater every morning. They were on the way to the beach as usual on Saturday morning, when they called at the hut, whioh is used as a. private dressing-room, arid made the shocking discovery. News of the tragedy was quickly communicated to tho Manly police, who came out and Temoved the body.' The bank} inspector of the London'Bank states that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the books or cash at the Branch mariaged by the deceased, who leaves a widow and a large family.
