The heat wa,ve in the north-west is the most severe since the big drought There has been practically no rain in the past month, and the temperatures have registered over 100 degrees. Pastoralists are apprehensive.

ROCKHAMPTON, Nov. 9. The Central Queensland Meat Export Company is suspending operations at its -works at Lake's Creek owing to the continuous dry weather and , the inability of tho company to secure sufficient fat stock to warrant them in keeping the works going. Over 400 men will be thrown idle temporarily. This is the first time in ten years that the Lake's Creek works have closed down. .
