Numerous names have been suggested as probable candidates for the Cook County elections next month, but the following arc considered certainties : Messrs Gilbert E. Jones and Geo. Witters, are coming out for the two seats m the Gisborne riding. Mr H. Kenway will be a candidate for the Waimata riding, and Mr T- Holden will probably come hack as representative of tlie Pou-. awa riding. Mr. F. J. Lysnar is standing again for Hangaroa riding, aud Mr R. Sherratt. who is visiting" the,.. Old Country, will be nominated for Patutahi. There will be several candidates Yr the Arai riding. Besides . the two! s-.tting members (Crs. White and Jex Blake), Messrs C. Williams, Ward and Lets will be the aspirants. It . is probable that Cr. Boland will again stand for one of the seats m the Tolaga riding, and that Cr. T. Fraser will- stand for Pakarae. As previously mentioned, Cr. Matthews* will seek re-election for. the Whataupoko riding/ It is stated that the Hon. Capt. Tucker will not contest the seat for the Gisborne riding.

Mr Rees had opened the case t< rid. quoted . numerous authorities m support of the claim, plaintiff gave, evidence similar to' that' given m the Supreme Court.— Mr Burnard : When did you .first think of-bring-ing this action for damages?
