The fortnightly stock- sales were conducted to-day at the Matawhero saleyards. There were very gpod yardings jn both sheep and cattle classes "on both, sides of the road. The depiand was not jrery keen, owing, no .doubt, to the dry weather and ebld nights, which were reported to be keeping. tlie grass back. jThe attendance was not very large, and. no doubt the slight interest m the sale caused through farmers being busy preparing for 'the Show. No one appeared to be very keen to secure sheep. i Messrs Williams' and Kettle, and the N.Z. Loan Company yarded 11,000 sheep' and a, large number of cattle. Amongst (.'he sheep entry were a splendid lot of 900 shorn ewes from Mr John Murphy's Repongaere station. There were also some very nice lines of hoggets. Mr A.
