MATAWHERO , STOCK \SAI,ES

The fortnightly stock- sales were conducted to-day at the Matawhero saleyards. There were very gpod yardings jn both sheep and cattle classes "on both, sides of the road. The depiand was not jrery keen, owing, no .doubt, to the dry weather and ebld nights, which were reported to be keeping. tlie grass back. jThe attendance was not very large, and. no doubt the slight interest m the sale caused through farmers being busy preparing for 'the Show. No one appeared to be very keen to secure sheep. i Messrs Williams' and Kettle, and the N.Z. Loan Company yarded 11,000 sheep' and a, large number of cattle. Amongst (.'he sheep entry were a splendid lot of 900 shorn ewes from Mr John Murphy's Repongaere station. There were also some very nice lines of hoggets. Mr A. C. .Steele, pf TalVunga,' had m a- line line of "547 wethers, ''Which were passed n. at 15s 3d, after some keen competiion. Fat sheep,: There was a good entry r m this class, but there appeared {o he more stock than the .demand war-, ranted, due evidently ' to the freezing jvprks not having started operations yet, and farmers spending down dry ewes., Sales wereV2s ewes ,13s;. 26 do. 13s 6d, 38 do. 13s^ &, do.' Other s^,les were: 3 bullocks £7 10s, 2 cows' £4; 15s. One jot of bullocks passed- jin at £7, and another of 8 at £7 10s. , Pigs were only represented by- a which sold as follows: 1 barrow-<vsßs, 1 do. 365. , Messrs Comriion, Shelton' and Co. and Dalgety and Co. then opened their sale, (heir sheep entry totalling 1100, whilst 200 cattle were offered. The entry included a nice lot Or wel^skinned ewes from Mr Ohas. Gray's .station, whilst' very nice lines of hoggets' were also jo be noticed. The cattle entry also included some excellent pens.
