, At ; the inquest "''on : the three bodies from the wreck of the Maeleay, the Coroner's verdict was one of "found drowned/ adding that the foundering of the vessel was caused .jby the careless navigation "of the chief officer, Mr Goldsmith (who "was" 'drowned J. (Heceivert October 16, 10.15 n.m.) SYDNEY. Octoher 16. At the inquest on the Maeleay victims Petersen gave evidence as to the chief officer changing the course set by the captain. The steamer shortly afterwards struck. The captain ordered the life boats out and rockets to be' got ready. He Avas trying to get the vessel round to beach her when she sank. •When the chief officer told the captain the course he had been steering the captain replied, "Oh, you murderer." Amongst the wreckage picked up m the vicinity of the Maeleay disaster was a quantity of wreckage from- tile Rosedale and the name board of the overdue Peruvian barque liica.
