C'opehvnd and Com pany, taupu-uliu manufacturers, Clarence street, and did damage to adjoining properties. The damage is ex tensive. • i LEVIN, this day. On Saturday night <i fire occurred m Ohau m a house owned and occupied b} an old settler, named VY. Coiner. Hi went to the railway station, leaving the fire alight. By. the time he had return ed everything. was destroyed. The l'urni hire was. insured for £200 and tht I building for £300 m the Norwich office. A fire occurred iii Aberdeen road about 9 p.m. on Saturday, resulting m tlu destruction of a four-roomed cottagt owned by Mr J. Whinray, and occupied by Mr M. Ryan, an employe at tht brewery. Mr and Mrs Ryan were m town when the fire broke out. When the alarm was given the flames had -. strong. hold, and the building, being an old one. was quickly reduced to ruins, nothing being saved from the dwelling* The nre appeared to commence m tht kitchen. , When the - brigade arriveu they were powerless to- save the . build- 1 .ing. The house was insured for £150 m the. Standard State office, but Mr Ryan bad no insurance on his effects. ..
A few minutes after 8 o'clock, last night the firebells sounded another alarm, this time the outbreak being m Upper. Gladstone road., at a. four -roomed cottage owned by Mr v!.lattley, of Auckland, and which was unoccupied. The building, which was an old one, was soon enveloped m names, and although the brigade were quickly on the scene, their efforts to prevent the. destruction of the house Mere hopeless. The build-. ing was vacated: by Mr R. Lewis; bricklayer, about a month ago, and it was about to be i .novated, m view of another tenant, entering into possession. The cause of the fire, therefore, remains a mystery. There was £100 insurance On the buiding m the Sun office.
