A CENTENARIAN'S DEATH.

(Per Press Association.) INVRCARGILL, this day. There died at Seaward Bush on Wednesday afternoon Mr John Stapleton, who was born in Tipperary in 1811. it was not until 1883, at the age of 72, that he decided to emigrate. Leaving his native land in the sailing ship Trevelean, he landed at Port Chalmers towards the end of the year 1883> and arrived in Southland on "New Year's Day, 1884. Most of the time since then he spent in the Seaward Bush district. Always a laborer Mr Stapleton was a very active man in his day, and till a few 'years ago enjoyed excellent health. Of late his age weighed on him. and for the last nine months he complained and had to take to his bed. The late Mr Stapleton. whose wife predeceased him by 40 years, is survived by a son and daughter, and 14 grand children.
