During a fire at Lovell and Christmas' s cold store warehouse at WestySmithfield, the refrigerator pipes burst) and the fumes overcame a dozen firemen, who were rescued with difficulty. AU have recovered. The damage was; small. \ SYDNEY', October IL In connection with the Katopmba.fire, Mullaney's insurances totalled £13,000, distributed among -various companies. • HASTINGS, this day. A five-roomed house on Gordon, road, owned and .occupied by Harry 'Hickey, was totally destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon, while the occupants were at the Napier Park races. It is thought that the fire originated by a defect m the chimney, caused by the recent earthquake. * A five-roomed cottage m Karamu road was destroyed by fire at 11 o'clock this morning. The owner. (Thomas Ryan) was smoking m bed,, and set fire lo the bed-clothes. He had a narrow escape. Only a little clothing was saved. The house and contents were' insured m the Standard- office for £390. The insurances on yesterday's firewere £150 on the house m. the New Zealand office and £150 on the furniture m the Alliance office.
