Owing to the general election taking place at an early date, the Government has decided to follow the European procedure, and take the Maori licensing poll on the same day as the European polls. This will considerably minimise the expense. . The Rating Act Amendment and the Elingamite Inquiry Rehearing Bill were read a first time. .Sir Joseph Ward proposes to remove the anomaly of rating small grazing runs, either by revaluation or an amendment of the law. Mr Herries has asked whether Sir John Findlay's announcement respecting the abolition of special Maori representation and the compulsory acquisition of surplus native land is a new policy of the Government or Sir John Findlay'/s alone, : i
