DEATH OF QUEEN MAKEA.

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Makea. Takau, Queen of Rarotonga, died on May 1; after a long illness, aged 72. She had reigned 40 years. The Resident Commissioner visited the Palace several times daily. He was with Makea when she died. When Makea was appointed, Bangi was also nominated. Before she died Makea expressed a wish that "Bangi should succeed. This wish will probably be given effect to by the Federal Council. The body was allowed to lie m state for three days. Tlie funeral was an imposing one. The usual tangi was, held.
