The ' ordinary meeting of the Cook County . Council was held to-day. Present : Hon'; Captain Tucker (chairman), Crs F. J. Lysnar, T. Jex-Blake, T. Fraser, A. F. Matthews, and T. Holden. Required today, £1625 18s 8d; overdraft 27th May. 1911, £6576 ?s 2d. Advances, £1596 , 6s7d. I - - The Treasury notified that the resolutions making special rates for the loans of £36d0. £1800 and £1800 for the bT.idge'fund m Tolaga, Gisborne. and Waimata- ridings were, gazetted, also the i-esiUts of the bridge fund poll taken m the several ridings. , Mr C. H. Seymour wrote, asking the Council to take a road through his property. He would make the road if the Council would pay for acquiring it out of thi** .rates, . which , auaounted to £300 a, year.— ln.reply to the Chairman, -the Engineer-' said* the proposed road would benefit two or three settlers. -It was decided that, providing Mr Seymour supplied a defined plan of. the road, the Council would take over the road on the terms mentioned. v^ffrr H. Mason, Steele road, Kaiti, again wrote, complaining about cows being allowed to mean,der along that road.— The clerk said he had seen the ranger, who' said he had endeavored to catch the cows. Mr Wilson said he only drove his cattle, from one paddock to another. — It was-deV;iclecl,'on the motion of the Chairma-fi,. to reply stating that the ranger had been instructed to use every vigilance . iii- uripounduig straying cattle, and to point out that any ratepayer could impound stock straying on the roads. ,i . : Ms W> Peryex wrote, asking the Council for assistance In putting a new drain through his and other property at Te Arai. He was . prepared •to give part labor towards the cost. — The Chairman : Bfere is another case of draining private land.— Cr Lysnar : This drainage question is becoming a serious. matter—almost as serious as the roads. It is going to .cost, a lot of money.— lt was decided to reply that to give effect to the request would mean the cutting ">f a. drain T3ft below flood level, the result being the flooding not only. of the roads but' of the. writer's land: "And," added tKe Chairman, "the last stat«' of the man would be wov*3e than the first." — The Engineer was instructed to * have done what work .
