FATAL EXPLOSION AT COLYTON,
(Per Press Association.) WAIROA, this day. A Maori girl, aged eight years, Avas drowned yeßterday flt FrasertoAvn. The body Avas not recovered. FEILDING, this day. A sjipdring tragedy occurred a t Colyton last night, and resulted m . the death of Stephen Melvin, tin .old settler. Melvih, who had had engineering training, Ava* experimenting with an acetylene gas plant made by himself Avith a milk-can and oil drum, when an explosion took place. Terrible injuries Avere inflicted ,on rMelvin's head* H-3 died m half an hour. , BLENHEIM, this day. j A man named Edwards, employed at Richmond Brook station, was drowned j m the Awatcre river yesterday.
