Arnst and Tom Lnwsdii. . . Fourth heat: W. Fogwell 1, P. Kemp (junr) 2, C. ftlatterson 3. • SYDNEY, March 19. The' weather was fine, and there was n-ris-ing tide. In the first heat Ripley had 18.sec. stiirt, Theo. Towns 48seos, and Day 18secs. Kipley was never overhauled, and won a good race by a length. Jn the second heat, iiorrtian 'towns liad 44secs, W. West 7Usecs, and AlcJiCiui 75secs. Towns gradually lorged tiirougli and Avon 'by two' lengths. U'here was a great finish between the otlier placed man, Arnst pushing' McLean' hard for third place. Jn the third yeilt Jlagney had 18secs, Simpson VUsecs, ' and Paddon 45secs. The presence of Arnst and .other cracks, including Messenger, lent additional interest to the heut. Hagney got a good start, and overhauled the limit ■nan at Tennyson. Lawson (bOsecs) lying fourth and Arnst (scratch) with Messenger (32secs) were together. At Cabanta Arnst retired, despite l many requests to finish the course. Hagney, 'finishing well, won by four lengths. Ltiwson was loiucli, and Messenger finished m the. ruck. In the fourthe, hat l<'ogwell had ltisecH, Kemp 40secs, C. Matterson Vosecs. Fogwell steadily . made his way- to the front and took charge at- Tennyson. He then jumped away, ana 1 finished two lengths to the good. Kemp was fourth. . Artist's defeat has robbed the final next Saturday ol a good deal of interest.(.Received March 20, 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 20. Arnst made a poor showing m the Parramattit Hundred. He explained that he was unwell for a week or more prior to the race; that he could ' hardly sit m a boat when he came out to start, i and lacked dash when going. ■
