The death is announced of Mr Richard Baker, tho first President of the Federal State. SYDNEY, March 20. Obituary : J. F. Burns, ex-State Treasurer. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. v Thos. Ballantyne, a wall-known North Canterbury contractor, died on Saturday. In the early days he settled on the West Coast. He was the late Mr Seddon's first employer m New < Zealand.
