He came to the colonies In the early sixties, and after settling foi\ some time in Australia came to New Zealand at tho time Of the Native War, and took up residence at Havelook, in Pelorus Sound. From there ho moved with his family to Lyttelton, and there he took up land at Oxford, where he had since resided, and where ho had been well known for many years.
