I The Government Insuranc3 Record for; July mentions that Mr W. J. Rudd, who is 75 years of age, and has been an agent of the Department for over 30 years, has taken over 11,600 proposals, the net result of his work being a total of closed business amounting to just upon £1,500,000. The wrestler, Alex. Bain, who visited Gisborne m company with Hackenschmidt, writes stating that he would like to bave a match m Gisborne before he leaves NeAv Zealand. He adds t "1 am even Milling to give handicap terms against Groth, Porter, or Paratene, or would make a match mixed styles. 1 M-ould like to spend another tew days m your cosy little town, so I sincerely: hope some of these chaps will come up] to the scratch." j At the annual meeting of the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association on -Saturday, a magnificent donation, amounting to £1817, was made to the funds of the Association by M*hat js known as the Solway Syndicate, comprising Messrs W. Perry (of Penrose), C F. Vallance (Masterton), R. Gray (Taratahi), J. Strang (Gladstone), and Quinton Donald (Featherston). Ibis syndicate bought land at Solway, about two miles from Masterton, and sold a .portion ' of it to the Masterton Agricultural Association for show grounds. All the remaining sections, except two, have been sold, and the whole of the profits donated to the Association, making a cash contribution iv all, M-'hen the two remaining sections have been sold, of £1817 10s. The. matter was ktept secret, and sprung as a" surprise on the annual meeting, the announcement being received with cheers., In addition to this donation, the individual members of the syndicate have given separate contributions, for the purpose of improving the Association's grounds, of from £25 td £55 each. The object of the syndicate is to assist m making the Masterton show the chief show of the Wairarapa, and a rival of Palmerston and Canterbury. ' A boy, aged 15, M-as brought before Mr W.< A. Barton, S.M.,this afternoon on a charge that, between February 3 and August 3, 1910, at Gisborne, he did commit theft of 1A& 6d and goods to the value of, £4 Os 3d, the property of R. A. Mitchell. Mr Bunrai*d appeared for accused, Avho pleaded guilty) Sergeant Hutton said the boy had been employed by Mr Mitchell for the last 14 months, and occasionally was left m sole charge of the business. On his own admission, he said he took a pair of spurs about eleven months ago, and since then had impropriated other goods, such as pairs of trousers, dandy brushes, socks, etc. Some of these he gave to other boys, and some he sold, one of the buyers being an adult. When . taxed by Mt Mitchell last night, the boy supplied a list of the articles he had taken, and also of the names of the persons he had given or sold them to. 'Ihe boy had been employed at other business places after school hours, but this was his first permanent employment. Mr Burnard said he M-ould defer addressing the Court until after the police had submitted their report. His Worship remanded the accused until Saturday morning, to enable a report to be obtained as to his past, career. Bail of £10 m one surety was allowed.
