In' connection with tlio conference of delegates of Kducation Boards, which is to open m the Wellington Hoard's office oil" August 23, the chairman of the Wangauui Hoard is just issuing to thb Boards throughout the . Dominion a circular bearing upon matters to be dealt with by the conference. The •Wanganui Board, at who.se suggestion the conference is being held, is incorporating m its chairman's circular a list of subjects for the conference, and it is] expected tliat other Boards will send m remit* covering the subjects stated ; but it is set forth m the circular that if the 'Boards do not cover these subjects, the Wanganui Board's delegates will present | -remits thereupon. Following i.s the list! of subjects: — The relations existing be-! tween 'Boards and the Department ; control of secondaryj education ; secondary | •' departments m district high schools to be replaced by suitable courses at technical schools; revision, of the boundaries of education districts m the direction of increasing the area of smaller districts; compulsory technical education; scholarships for agriculture and, domestic scieijce ; agricultural education ; woodwork and cookery m country schools ; maintenance allowance for technical schools ; pupils with competency certificate to be allowed to attend practical courses as free place pupils; tjiovernment subsidies for voluntary contributions towards all primary school committees' funds; medical inspection of school children ; universal grading, classification, and transfer of teachers; increased staffing; salaries of secondary assistants, no deductions to be made from salaries of pupil teachers attending the training colleges who do relieving work m the holidays ; building, and maintenance grants; travelling expenses of teachers attending classes, and technical instructors, m country districts to be paid by road as well* as by rail; reinstatement of buildings destroyed by fires • purchase of school sites and additions thereto ; grants for new schools and additions to 'be based on the mean .between the average roll and the average attendance; installation of sewerage at teachers' residences ; grant* for Board omces and iraintenance ; Boards to specify individual schools where individual examination of pupils js- not required; reduction of school houmj for Bible instruction; free . school books; boy- scouts to supersede cadets at primary schools. y
