WAIKOHU COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tho monthly meeting of the Waikohu County Council was held to-day, there being present : Crs. A. M. Lewis, H. Telford, M. H. Campbell, and E. V. Palmer. Cr. E. M. Hutchinson was unable to attend, owing to the flooded r>tate of the rivers a.nd the bad roads. Cr. Telford was voted to tho chair. , CORRESPONDENCE. Mr James Poyriter, Te Karaka, wrote ('rawing attention to the dangerous state it the bridge over Mangataikihu stream,, en the Waiapu inland road. The writer offered to cart timber to the site free tl charge. — Engineer instructed to inspect and report. Arabella Ngakiti, Puha, wrote that owing to a slip she had had tb spend £1 i:i clearing a road, and she asked that the amount be allowed off herTatos. — O ranted. „ ■
.Mr C. Neenan, Ormond, wrote re ciamago to his property at Whatatutu { lirough the Council's watertables. — Engineer to report. Mr D. Mallone, Puha, also wrote complaining of the damage done to his property by the Council s drain.— Engineer tu repori.
The Clerk of the Cook County Council forwarded cheque for £120, being repayment of amount advanced to, carry; cut works oa Murphy's road. ' ' n ' Messrs .Blair and Sainsbury wrote onj behalf of Mr H. W. Brodrick, Whata-, tutu, urging that owing to the river.encroachment the public wei'o using his land as a public highway! 1 Ho asked lor remuneration, or for the Council to take over the land under the Public Works Act. — Engineer; to report, » MrMohn Pigott, secretary of tho Motu Valley Association, wrote asking the Council to place a roadman on the portion of tho Motu Valley road that had recently been 'taken over by the Council. Ho also asked what had become of the £100 vote for widening the road mentioned.— Reply to be sent that the engineer considered it would be useless' to put a roadman on at the present time, and also to state that an application had gone forward for the £100 grant. < The Public Works Department wrote 1 that £82 12s 4d had been authorised to be expended on Fraser road, near Motu, 1 and £200 on Armstrong road. i Messrs Roes Bros., and Bright wrote that the Council could not claim to detain the deposit for alleged .breach ofi agreement in regard to McLoughlin's contract. — Received. • .
The Cook Hospital. and Charitable Aid Board wrote asking for £769 being, in the £ upon the rateable value of, W-aikohn County Council.— Received. | A copy of the 'Gazette notice'proclaim-i ing cape weed and penny cress (Aus-i tralian stink weed) a noxious weed wasreceived!. . The secretary of the Bruce County Council wrote "asking the Council's cooperation in a resplution compelling con veyancers or owners to give written!notice to local authorities of every change of ownership or occupancy i 6l mteable property within a county.— Approved. Air E. O'Siillivan waited on the Coun T cil in regard to a dispute re measurement of Motu metal, , the engineer having recommended that not more than 1422yds bo paid for, Mr G. de Fraser's measurement. A. lengthy discussion ensued with Mr O'Sullivan, and it was decided' to leave the matter to the engineer 1,0 confer with Mr Fraser and report.
