(Por Press Association.) WANGANUI, last night. Mr Radcliffe, a settler m the vicinity of Jerusalem, up the river, reports that an outbreak of typhoid has occurred at the Maori pa at Jerusalem. Six eas'*s have , occurred up to the present, ami several deaths have taken place. Mr Radcliffe says that a native doctor was there a- week ao, . but so far nothing has been done to check the disease. WELLINGTON, last night. The officers of the\ Audit Department to-day made presriititions to two retiring officers, Mr J. 0. Warhurton, ' la'lu Auditor and Controller-General, and Mr J. B. Heywood, Assistant Controller and Auditor.* On behalf of the formergentleman, who was unable to be present owing to illness, Colonel Collins, the new Auditor-General, received a valuable silver* coffee pot and salver. To Mr Heywood, who loaves shortly for England, was given a photograph of the staff, a. cigar case, a sovereign ease, and a rug. Sir Joseph Ward presided. -^ .The Government has decided to have ♦investigations made into the guiisc of the disease which has aifeetcd trout m Lake Rotorua. Probably immediate fctcps will be taken to regulate spawning by eliminating inferior trout from the spawning grounds. S'onio scientific -examination into the whole matter will probably be necessary, and although a largo number, of suggestions Have ; tilready been made, further- opinions will , probably be obtained from authoritative sources. . . . .
