Tho tterald's Taupo correspondent telegraphs to-night that- during the pafet week, tho yolcano Ngauruhoo has been getting more' active than usual,, and this morning, at 10.45 o'clock there was a magnificent outburst from the crater, which sent up columns of smoke and ashes to a height of about 6000ft. The ashes wero carried by th,e> light south wind across Tongarirp, and soon obscured it from view. The ash is now drifting across the sky in a northerly direction like a black pall. Tlie Ohiner 6ango . and Waihoponu rivers are now a black swirl of ''■ water'.-
