BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Gisborne Borough -Council was held last night. Present: Crs J. Somervell (in the chair), J. Maynard, W. Pettie, W. L. Clayton, F. Harris,- and J. C. Collins. Li* J. R. . Kirk .applied for leave of absence,, for a month or six *\veeks. — Granted. •-* ** V. Mr V s A. ,M.„ Clark, Desmond road; wrote ■'.complaining', that . his^refuse receptucle r|>had ' not been emptied-; for 21 weeks. — The' -Clerk ' said^.the .rubbish cart did not go up that far.— ln reply <; to the Chairman, Mr Little said the cart only went as far as Herbert road.— Cr Pettie : When -was it carried .'that the rubbish cart should not go over the whole of tha borough. — The. Clerk: The cart never went all over the borough. It used to go as far as Roebuck road, but was ' extended. — Gr Pettie thought that if the •ratepayers complied with the Council's wishes and provided proper receptacles they should be attended to. He moved that the writer's complaint be attended to. — Ci* 'Clay ori "■ seconded. — The Chairman advised that the matter should be referred to the Sanitary Cohimittec. — Cr Pettie did not think so. — Or Smith thought the whole matter '.should be gone into by, the Sanitary Committee. They should find out what- districts were not visited, 'and if necessary another cart should be obtained. — Ci- Collins moved as an amedment that the matter be, referred to the Sanitary Comniittee.—The 1 'Chairman seconded* the amendment, i which was carried. Mr J. ' <• ' The Council's solicitors, Messrs Chrisp and Coleman, advised that the Council might not accept dedication of Temple street. — Received. Mr.E. H. Mann applied for reservation of Stafford's ' • 'right-of-way. — Granted. The inspector (Mr. J. R. Little) reported : "Since your tost meeting I have inspected tho different blocks marked on '.plan, 6* to 14,. 24, 31/32, 33, Gisborne, and 10, 12,13> 14, 21 Wliataupoko. On 2 sections 3, 26^ 27, there are six lipases' built j they are 7 all drained to soal_- v holes on tlie sections; these holes are, now full,. and have become, a nuisance. I, have notified vthe , owner to "have the same cleaned out,- or have the drains .disconnected. To-day I visited the camps on- the Kaiti beach, and ihy spected aboiit 60 tents, whidh are now pitched'- pn the road. I find that the most of them have provided some sort of sanitary convenience, on the side of the hill, by digging a hole in the ground; others have provided tins ; but still there is tbe danger of an outbreak of enteric at any tiriie, as anything coming from the hill is" 'bound to get into tbe water or on to" the camping ground, and it is impossible to proper.-* supervise a place of this sort, as a lot of -pepple orily' live there at .riijglit.
