LAND BOARD.

s , The quarterly local meeting of the Hawke's Bay Laj/d Board was held today, when there were present : The Commissioner for Crown Lands (Mr T. N. Brodrick), Messrs Groom, Weight, and W. E. Akroyd. '-'Tlie first matter considered Avas that of the position of A. J. M. Simson, lessee of o.r.p. 298, section 1, block 13, Motu, for non-fulfilment of residential condition. — The Commissioner explained that there were three other lessees in precisely the same psoition, viz., T. J. Adair, lessee of o.r.p. 282, section 1, block/ 9, Motu (non-fulfilment of residential condition) ; John Turner, lessee of o.r.p. 258, section 25, block 2, Motu (non-fulfilment of improvement condition) ; and M. and C. Doyle, lessees of o.r.p. 283, section 3, block 14, Motu (non-fulfilment of residential condition). Tho Commissioner went on ao explain tliat the land when taken up ,w«is unsurveyed, and some time elapsed before this was completed ; consequently the lessees requested an extension of time for a period of four years, or in other words, that the matter should be fixed from the date of survey instead of date of selection. — The Board approved of the " four . years' extension in each instance. A similar request was made on behalf of Chas. Moricc, lessee of o.r.p. section 9, Motu. — Granted. Mr Geo. Smith, who has taken over Mr Wilkinson's interests at Rakauroa, wrote giving the necessary assurance re preservation of bush in connection with the construction of tram line through forest reserve, Ngatapa. — Received. W. Turner applied for extension of time in which to complete purchase of freehold l.i.p. 289, sections 14 and 22, block-- 2, Motu, 185 acres. — Twelve months' extension granted. .With regard to .section T, block 7, Matil, the Commissioner stated that this section, which comprised 185 acres surrounded by native land, had been twice .previously let, but each time had been surrendered because it was too small and poor. Recently the section hod been offered and withdrawn because the natives required it. Settlers in the locality, however, ' desired to have the section, put up again, and he accordingly suggested that it should be sold by pub-lic-auction, at an upset, cash price of £450. This,' the Commissioner added, vvould do away with airy feeling over the matter. — The Board agreed to adopt the course suggested. Application was lodged by P. M: Hansen, for the purchase of freehold of l.Lp. sections 26 and 16, block 2, Motu. — Ranger Robertson was appointed assessor. Re application to sub-lease portion of l.i.p. section 43, block 16, Hangaroa, 63^ acres, W. : L. Butleiyio F., Moripe. — Mr Chrisp appeared -.in support. — Granted. - v ' », ; M. A. O'Sullivan applied fbr transfer of half of his interest in" r.l.s. section 4, block 10, Kanakanaia settlement, to his father, Patrick Sullivan.— The Commissioner stated he had received,.a'letter from applicant, explaining that ->, he was iii the midst of shearing and A*as unable to attend. — To stand over ■ fill next meeting. .»•"■ "'"•"•, ' J.' Hoa/o applied for . transfer of l.i.p. section 4, block 2, Yellows' settlement. — Mr Chrisp, who appeai'ed with applicant, in support, said 'that the transferee, Baker, intended goiiifs/iil extensively for fruit growing.—^Granted. E. H. Taylor applied for transfer of cash selection sections 54 to 56, block "j.5, Hangaroa,. to C. S. MacFarlane. — Recommended for approval of Minister. Crown Lands Ranger Robertson forwarded 73 reports on holdings in Hangaroa, Tuahii, and Opoiti survey districts.—The Commissioner remarked that they "were fairly, satisfactory. There were, -however, a number of defaulters. -- — The Board decided- to notify defaulters in, the usual way.
