Butter is easier owing to large arrivals and prospective heavy supplies,, but there is a. steady demand for the choicest colonial, which is clearing well: Australian salted 112s, unsalted 114s, secondaries 104s to 108s; choicest New Zealand 116s ; Danish 124s to 1265. Stored Australian and New Zealand butter is practically cleared. , Bank of England returns : Gold coin £3,535,000, reserve £25,776,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 25:99 per cent. Bills in circulation £28,965,000, public deposits £5,323,000;. other deposits £40,686,000, Government securities £14,413,000, other securities £23,503,000. Consols are at 82|; New South Wales 4 per cents 106|, do 3£ 98^, do- 3 . 86 ; Victorian 4 per' cents 102, do 3£ 961, do 3 84|; Queensland 4 per cents 102^, do 3i 96g, do 3- 844; New Zealand 4 per cents 105£, do 3A,.97£, do 3 86, or ex dividend 84|; Tasmanian 3^ per cents 96£; West Australian 3A per cents 981, do 3 88. .The bank rate is- 5 per cent; shoi"t, ipans 4 per cent.
