CITY 5 v. Y.M.CIA. 1. The first match in. the hockey compe- { tiitions yesterday afternoon was played between City and Y.M.0.A., and resulted in a victory for City, after. a hardfought game, by. 6' goals to 1. Y.M.C.A. put up a good' defence against the more experienced l team, but they \yere weak in their hitting. City's goals were shot by Armstrong, Day, Fox, Grinlinton, and Friar, and Pino found the net for Y.M.C.A. For the losers, Tine, Auld, Russell, Davy, and Baker played Well, and on City's aide, 1 in addition to; the scorers, Doyle and Cockerill did good work. Mr ;R. Grant re fereed, - KIA KAHA 3 v. WEST END 3. This match was more eVenh' contested, and play was fast all through. Grant,, Pollock, and Murpliy scored for': Kia' Kalia, whiUst Morse and McLbughlinshbt, goals fot West End, the third goal beitig awarded them , for obstruction inside the circle. Olsen, Bright, arid Morse .showed XLp prdminentlyX amongst the West Ehde'rs, and jPolloclc^' Tabernacle, Grant, nnrl' flaiTett were about the- best for K la Kaha. Mr Armstrpng was referee. ;
