Star, who were playing two men short, then pulled themselves together, and a series of forwiardi rushes took place; but without result. Wyllie picked tip' in midfield, and a-passing run between he and Ticker resulted in the latter getting over, after sspme clever tackling by Kaipara. Puflett missed an apparently, easy goal. Shortly before, the interval Witty, by following up well, scored. Upon play resuming Star pressec} their opponents hard, andi although pity relieved their position several. times, tlie red and blacks returned to the attack, and Kaipara. succeeded in scoring. Wilkinson converted. With this encouragement, Star resumed, tlie aggressive, but Citf wer-e'-'tbo strong on the defence. Although Star kept play in their opponents' 25 most of the time, ' theit back division -was weak; and 'their -attacks were- futile* City did not attack much, but', wheni; they did a score resulted. Further tries were obtained by Tocker and Gatland, ■ Wilkinson, Davis, Bri£ £ow, Newton,aiid Kaipara, were, the most prominent of the Stars, and. Grinlinton, Roderick, Tocker, McKenzie, Witty, and WylKe wer'e about the best for City. Towards the close of-thfe game Witty 'sprained his ankle. The gam« .was controlled by Mf M. Osborne.
