Mr MdGSarthy, S.M., delivered judg-, ment m a case to-day, brought by the inspector against flenry Baker, licensee of the Club hotel, of selling milk from an unregistered dairy. Defendant s milk comes m from an • unregistered dairy, which supplied the. hotel with milk. Ihe Department held that the supply of milk with meals or with drink (such as whisky and milk) constituted a sale within the meaning of the Dairy Ind«strv Act. The Magistrate reviewed the cSe at length, and held that, the , provision of milk with meals or drink did not constitute a sale. He gave judgment for defendant, without costs. . , PALMERSTON N., last nigfet. There is considerable Seeling over a decision of the Borough Council, by a majority of one, to let all its works and maintenance by tender, instead of the day labor system at present »n vogue It is expected that Mr McNab's meetintr here, m advocacy of universal training will be held on June 7th, at the municipal Opera House, municipal WESTpoRT> last night. The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Railways and Marine, arrived at Westport from Reef ton this evening. Toniorrow morning he inspects the West-port-Mokihinui railway r and returns to town to receive, deputations, and is to be entertained at luncheon m the evening. At a large public meeting, held tonight, a resolution was carried expressing the opinion tJiat the advice of one of the world's leading engineers be nought m connection with the improvement of Westport harbor, so as to enable ships of large tonnage to be fully loaded and despatched fiom the port. A deputation was appointed to interview Afr Millar, to-morrow, and place the meeting's views before him. TIStARU, last night. By a poll of ratepayers, the Borough Council were authorised to borrow £18 000 for improvements to the water supply And £6000 for street improvements. Two other proposals, for new borough offices (£4000) and Town Hall (£5000) were rejected. Only 608 out or 1900 on the roll voted. }
