A quiet though pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Mary's Church this 1 morning, when Miss Margaret Ann McCashin, of Wairoa, was married to Mr John Keane, of Hokitika. The Rev. Father Lane officiated at the ceremony, nuptial mass being celebrated. The bride, who was #iven away by her brother, Mr Mark MrCashin, was charmingly attired m nn Kmpiie gown of cream silk taffeta, the bodice being trimmed with silk insertion, Ottoman silk and j and silver tassels. The skirt was finished off with a band of cream velvet, and the orthodox wreath and veil* were worn. The bride also wore a gold brooch, set m pearls, the pift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaid, Miss Mary Walsh, wore" a white Swiss muslin dre«3, with a black silk "Merry Widow hat. The bridegroom's gift to the bridesmaid was a pretty half-moon gold brooch, set m , .sapnhires. Mr Frank Delaney acted as best man. After the ceremony the bridal party proceeded to Mr J. HMartin's private residence, where they ivutook ot the wedding breakfast, the Rev. Fathers Lane and Ormond being present. Subsequently the happy couple left for the Fbst Coast; the bride's travelling dre?s was of navy blue cloth, trimmsd \rith braid and buttons, with hat to match. They were* the recipients of several cheques and other valuable presents. His Worship the Mayor and Mr "Morgan, borough overseer, proceeded to Kaitaratahi to-day to inspect the new locomotive crane that has been suprl'dj to the Borough Council by Messrs Chamberlain and Sons. The machinery worked splendidly, but the trial was attended by an ■ unfortunate mishap. After running 'along the line with trucks, and lifting three or four grab-loads successfully, the locomotive, with an extra large grab-full, as the crane was swinging round 1 , topped over. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and so far as can be «=oen the machinery was not injured. The engine is lying on her fide, and will be immediately dismantled and recrected, a, work that will occupy several days. Messrs Chamberlain and Son's representative was m charge of the locomotive, and was putting her through the official trial when the accident happened, «o that the responsibility for reerenting the engine and proving its suitability for the work, it has been contracted it shall do reslsi with them. It is explained that there ape clamps to heW the wheels of the locomotive to the railyrav line when lifting shingle, and that! these had' not been put ori. So far as the railway line, which had been constructed by the Borough Council, M-,t»s concerned, it was perfectly solid, and m no wav contributed to the accident. The Borough Council has paid <>nly a small deposit of 5 per cent., the , balance being payable when the machinery is handed! over. The accident appears to have arisen from the fnot/that~ the crnne was not anchored to the rails, as it should have been when ".lifting- commenced
