The engineer of the Oamaru Harbor g^bard reported on Tuesday tjhat the la*t sea did some slight damage to the breakwater, and laid it open to further damage through the settling of the block aprpn. The outer monolith '(the end of the mole) had tilted forward another 2ft, nnd if more under-scouring took place the whole block would disappear. Home action should be taken to prevent this. 1 Mr Marchant, engineer to the New Plymouth Harbor Board (states the Timaru Herald) haß Teceived final instructions from the Board to accept the tended of' 'Messrs' Fleming and Ferguson, Paisley, for the construction of a powerful dredge, at a cost of £33,000, including delivery and work for a specified time m the harbor. Tlie dredge will bd of the stern-well bucket-ladder type, having a large sand pump m addition. The suction pipe will be fitted with a powerful rotary cutting apparatus, for the purpose, of increasing the yield when the pump ia working m tight sand. l<oth bucket ladders and pump will work down to a maximum depth of 42 ( feet below water level.
