AUOKLAND, last night. The hockey sesison opened yesterday at the polo ground, Remuera, with a ladies' and men's seven a-side tournament, the respective winners; being Rangitara, a club formed only three weeks ago, and Auckland. The edming season promises to be even more successful than the previous one. NAPIER, last night. Tho Hawke's Bay Rngby Union opened the football season yesterday with a seven a-side tournament, which was won by Rovers (Hastings), with Old Boys (Napier) runners-up. OHRISTCHUROH, last night. The Canterbury Rugby Union's competition started! on Saturday m, fine .'weather. The grounds were m good order. Old Boys (8) beat Sydenham' (6) ; Christchurch and Albion drew (8 points each) ; Canterbury College and Linwood drew (3 points each) ; Merivale had a bye. DUNEDINj last night. The football seasono opened m splendid weather yesterday. Dunedin (22) beat Kaikorai (nil) ; Alhambra (4) beat Port Chalmers (nil) ; Zirigari-Richmorid (3) drew with Taieri Rovers (3) ; and Union (nil) dreW with Pirates (nil).
