The polo ground at Makauri presented a< picturesque isoene: yesterday aifternoon, when the opening games of the Waiapu Poio Association's tburnainent were played^ Despite, tb^ threatening and 1 oledk weather, ;ih«re was ai good attendance of, spectators, including a large majority of ladies. Numerous motor cars and other fink turn-outs! all helped I to; make the. ■scene look more .striking. Poverty Bay No. 1 -(E? Monckton, TV and R. Sherratt, and J. R. Murphy) ■ wiere matched against Manga heia No. 2 (R. arid G. Black, J. Rutledge, and' G, Williams). ; Poverty Bay, with fine ; cpmbination, played) wellj and shortly after starting, Monekton scored the first, goal for hi^s side. Manga>heia then held their, own, j^id attacked strongly, Diofc Black making tte totals level by scoring a. fino goal. Howeve.r, Povierty Bay from then' on showed their- superiority, winning a very one-aided game 'by 18 to 1. In the eecrinaT game, 'M&ingaheia No. 1 (G. and R. Reynolds, R. C and R. K. Murphy) met Poverty Bay No.' 2 (G. Black, P. Sherratt, «. E> GiHihghanii and (>. Monckton). This match resulted in a win for Mangaheia by 13 to nil.
