CRADING OF TEACHERS.

-♦ (Per Press Association.) , Auckland, tins day. The remaining clauses of Mr Furdie's Gchemo for the grading of teachers were passed by the Board of Education yesterday in the following form: — 1. That in Viich classified list the inspectois omit the nfcmcs of £11 head teachers who inform the Board of their wish not to be graded'; that in such 'classification, and in the classification of assistants, as indicated in .'resolution. 5, the Chief Inupec'tor. shall. have 'a deliberative and, if he;^Gctry, a casting vote, and that each of the other inspectors shall have a deliberative • vote. 2. That the inspectors also ai> range in order of merit the names of all teachers who are <eligib!e as assistants in positions, as stated hereunder— (a) an assistantship entitling him to a salary of grade 1 or 2 in schools of grades 4, 5, and 6 ; (b) an osstftontship entitling him to a salary of gracje 1 or 2 in schools of grade 7 and upwards; ' (c) an assistantship entitling bun to a salary of grade .3 or 4 ; (d) an assistantship entitling him to a salary of grade 5, 6, or 7. That the/grade's of salaries referred to in resolution 5 be those defined in the second part of the first schedule of the Act to amend the- Education Act, 1908. 4. That in determining the relative positions of teachers, due attention be given to teaching skill, length of service, and academical attainments,, and that marks be avrarded for each of these aa follows : For teacliinff skill, 70 per cent, of the maximum; lor length of service, 10 per cent, of the maximum (full marks to be gi'yen for 20 years' service) ; for academical at20 per cent, of the maximum. 5. That should a teacher from any other education district apply foT a vacant position, his place in the classified lirA, be determined from the evidence submitted. 6.
