MURITAI WRECK ENQUIRY.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The enquiry into the wreck of the Muritai opened to-day. Mr Mayo, K>li-i-itor for the Customs Department, said blhc course of the cniiuiry would be directed to the course followed from Percv Point, 40 miles northwards, to the scene of the wreck. The course was directed here to clear the Hen and Chickens, four miles, the second mate, who -was on -the bridge, being directed j to call the captain in the event of the weather thickening. The evidence would show that although the weather was so dense that the. island could not be mth at a distance of 25ft, the second oHiccr only called the captain at the moment when the vessel struck. The captain gave evidence to this effect. He stated that he refused to give I ho second officer !i discharge niter, the wreck, hecanse' he considered he had committed an act of disobedience.
