THE MAYORALTY.
(To the Editor of the Herald.* Sir,— l am an ardent supporter of Dr Williams for the civic chair because he is quite indifferent of public opinion. Has a mind of his own when not overruled. . . . . I like him because he supports Mr Robert Hay doing the i City levels, thus ignoring local talent and large ratepayers. . . . . I like • him because he captured the Socialist ! leader and land reformer, Mr George Darton, and converted him into a good entity old Tory. I like him still more because each paragraph of his address makes hi°;h rates and rents a necessity, thus chasing burgesses into the county, . where I possess a large area of choice i building sites. For all these reasons » he has my heartiest support. He has i served his noviate with credit as the Borough roads can testify.— l am. etc., "PROTEUS."
