DUNEDIN NEWS.

(Special to Herald.) DUNEDIN, this day. Mr Kirk, of the Agricultural Department, says the Orchard and Garden Pests Act is to be more rigorously carried out. As a matter of fact, prosecutions are now pending in some of the districts of the Dominion for the distribution of diseased fruit. The fruit growing industry is going ahead very rapidly, and good profits are being made in most districts, with the cultivation and area steadily increasing. Last year there was an increase of over 750 acres as compared with an average increase of about 300 acres for several years previously, whilst the area devoted to vineyards showed an increase of 100 acres, principally in the North Island. -,

I understand that a writ will be served on the City Corporation this week in connection with the long-standing dispute with Noyes Bros., endeavors to effect a compromise having failed.
